Sistahs’ Business Network offers resources, information and inspiration to help sole proprietors and other small business owners save time and increase efficiency to get it all done.
| Body | Why Sistahs? People often ask the founders of SBN if there is a need for an organization for African American Business Women. Here are the responses of some of the Sistah guests on why they want to be entrepreneurs and why they want to join Sistahs' Business Network: " Because having a degree in business and being in business are two different things!" "Because we can serve God better when we are not under Pharoah." " I want networking with sincerity, to network with people who are actually interested in being my customer." |
| In order to be a successful business person, you must invest in your most important asset – you! Taking care of your body - tending the temple- will help to ensure that you are ready and able to take advantage of business opportunities. SBN monthly meetings always include a component for the body. Our speakers and experts on health, nutrition and exercise help you keep it together. |
| | | SBN History Sistahs’ Business Network began as the brainchild of several African American Business Women following a Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber networking meeting in the fall of 2005. The impetus of the proposed meeting was to gather a few of the women’s girlfriends to sell some art work and to discuss business. Soon, it became evident that as African American Business Women we had many challenges and questions and no formal way to address them. In January of 2006, the SBN coordinators sent out an email asking if some of their friends and colleagues would be interested in meeting to discuss business issues on a regular basis. The response was a resounding “Yes!” Our inaugural dinner meeting was held on February 21, 2006 at the Hawthorne Center in Columbia, Maryland. The meeting was attended by 30 participants – including 22 existing business owners, 6 potential business owners, and three men! Based on a survey completed by this initial group, the SBN coordinators decided to host regular monthly meetings with speakers who can address the spiritual, mental and physical needs of women business owners, and to host quarterly special events. Further, the group understood that its purpose was to provide inspiration and information for business women. SBN is growing. In March, 2006 we appointed a board of directors and obtained a regular meeting space. We meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month in Linden Hall in the Dorsey Search Village Center in Ellicott City, MD. We established two levels of membership opportunities – Entre Entrepreneur (Basic) and Savvy Sistah (Gold) memberships. Our goal is to make every Sistahs’ Business Network meeting and event pleasant and beneficial. At every meeting we ask for Sistah guests feedback and support. |
